Earthquake Drills, Tornado Drills, and Intruder Drills (aka Lock Down Drills) can be scary for younger students. Using routine posters as visual supports and read-aloud books shows students what to expect, making the safety drills less scary and more manageable for your students.

At the beginning of the year, I will read the book before the drill and with individual or small groups of students throughout the year before drills. This has been designed for a preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten classroom.

The other posters you can make so students are able to take the parts of the routine on and off. ***I put a poster IN the book too! I make it the last page in the book.*** They are great to hang up in your classroom, too!

Sending it Home with Students: Every year, I have one or a few students who are scared to death or just freaked out by emergency drills. I make them their OWN book to take home. They can read it at home with their family, too.
