Set your light table up for spring with these fun and engaging activities for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students. The light table is a great place to capture students’ interest in literacy, math, fine motor skills, science, and more! You can do the same activities as other centers in your classroom, but students may show more interest when the activity is on the light table. Keep reading to see these spring light table activities for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students!

Spring Light Table Activities for Fine Motor
Color Cutting Collage Light Table! Create a cutting activity at your light table with strips of tissue paper and wax paper. The light shines through the tissue paper so beautifully! It is such a fun way for students to work on cutting skills, color identification, gluing skills, social skills, hand-eye coordination, crossing the midline, and more. Your little kids are going to love these new ways to do open-ended art projects in your preschool classroom.
Spring Light Table Activities for Literacy
Bug Letter Build Light Table! Laminate some tissue paper and write letters on each sheet. Then, students use manipulatives to build the letters. I set out translucent bugs and bingo chips for my manipulatives. A fun idea is to let students use magnet wands to clean up their bingo chips.
Spring Letter Sound Math Light Table! Use these letter and sound match game boards to practice letter recognition on the light table. Young children can match capital to capital or uppercase and lowercase letters, or older kids can work on identifying beginning sounds.
Chick Sight Word Light Table! I found these chick eggs at the dollar store around Easter time. Then, I wrote sight words on stickers and placed one on each chick. Next, I made sight word chips with bingo chips and letter gems with glass gems. I scattered everything on green paper and mixed in pom poms. Students picked the matching sight word and letters to spell the sight word out of the grass and placed them in the chick. To make it easier, you can make this a letter-matching game for younger children.
Rain Names Light Table! Practice names with this adorable rain cloud name light table activity. I wrote students’ names on blue tissue paper clouds and laminated them. I wanted to laminate the name clouds so I could use them with dry-erase markers on another day. Then, students used blue letter gems to spell the names.
Spring Light Table Activities for Math
Carrot Count Light Table! Make a number-matching game with some carrot plastic eggs, FREE number cards, and pom poms or other counting manipulatives. Students pick a carrot and identify the number on it. Then, they find the matching number and count that many pom poms out with the tweezers. Lastly, they place everything outside. This is a great way to immerse students in lots of math skills in your preschool classroom.
Spring Ten Frames Light Table! Set up a ten frame counting game for your little learners with these spring-themed ten frame mats, number cards, and magnetic bingo chips. To clean up, kids of all ages can use the magnet wand to collect all their chips and clear their boards off the light box.
St. Patrick’s Roll & Count Light Table! Gather some supplies and set up a fun St. Patrick’s Day theme roll and count game on the light table. This is a great fine motor activity for different ways to use loose parts during a spring theme. I am using some silicone ice cube trays for counting trays. Then, I grabbed some counting manipulatives like pom poms, glass gems, dice, and translucent clovers. Students roll a die and put that many manipulatives in the counting trays. To make it more difficult, give students 2 dice and have them practice informal addition.
Spring Number Line Light Table! Make a spring number line with these adorable number cards, translucent numbers, and counting manipulatives. Students find the matching number and count the correct number of linking cubes. Your little learners will be working on number identification, one-to-one correspondence, and fine motor strength.
Bug Patterns Light Table! Cut some tissue paper grass strips and have students make patterns with some themed manipulatives. I am using bugs from Lakeshore. This would work for any theme since you can easily change the manipulative. Activities on the light table can be the perfect way to introduce something new to a small group of young children.
Dino Color Sort Light Table! Make color sorting cups with clear cups and colored masking tape. Students use tweezers to grab the small pieces and sort them into the correct cup. I am using translucent dinos for my sorting pieces; they are so much fun.
Pond Shape Sort Light Panel! Create little shape ponds with blue tissue paper. Then, give students manipulatives to build around the shape (rubber ducks) or give them shape manipulatives to sort into the ponds (translucent shape buttons).
Easter Color Sort Light Table! Use plastic eggs to create a color-sorting game on the light table. The bowls are egg-dyeing bowls from Easter kits. I also set out plastic eggs and tons of pom poms for students to sort and count. All the different colors are extra fun and a great addition to the light table!
Spring Light Table Activities for Science and STEM
Color Mixing Science Light Table! Set up a science table at your light table to bring even more excitement to the classroom. A color mixing theme is perfect for the light table and spring time. Students can practice color identification and mixing colors on the light table. You can find the color paddles here.
Pipe Builder STEM Light Table! Use these translucent pipes to practice STEM skills on the light table. You can also incorporate a community helper theme or learn about plumbers.
There are so many fun spring light table activities you can incorporate into your classroom; I doubt you will run out of ideas! Get your lesson plans ready for the busy spring season with these light table ideas for your classroom.
