Marshmallows are an awesome math manipulative because you can create so many fun, hands-on math activities for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students! Put the worksheets away and have FUN while learning with marshmallow math! Providing students with hands-on activities is the best way to encourage students to be excited about learning, and engage them in multiple math learning experiences. These marshmallow math activities focus on skills like one-to-one correspondence, sorting, exploring shapes, making patterns, creating graphs, and increasing fine motor strength at the same time. Use these marshmallow math activities for a camping theme, hot cocoa theme, summer theme, or snowman theme.

Marshmallow Math Ideas
Marshmallow Math Color Graphs! Use marshmallows like stamps with paint to make a fun graph. Roll a color die and graph the results. Teach little learners about graphing, most, least, colors, counting, and so much more with this fun, hands-on math activity!Â
Marshmallow Paint Patterns! Cut strips of paper, gather some paint and large marshmallows, and get practicing patterns with your little learners! You can stamp the beginning of the pattern beforehand and have students complete the color pattern or students can make their own patterns.
Marshmallow Roll & Count! Roll a die and dab the marshmallow that many times. Each color can signify a new roll. Practice counting, one-to-one correspondence, color recognition, and so much more!
Marshmallow 2D Shapes! Draw shapes on a piece of paper and have your little learners dab the corners. This is a great activity for 2D shape identification and talking about straight lines and vertices. Also, great for sorting shapes by the number of sides.
Marshmallow 2D Shape Build! Use mini marshmallows and toothpicks to build 2d shapes. This is a wonderful marshmallow activity for shape sorting and identification. Improve fine motor strength, shape knowledge, and have fun while completing this hands-on math activity!
Marshmallow 3D Shape Build! Use large marshmallows and toothpicks to have preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students create 3D shapes. Give students requirements like their shape must have 8 sides or 8 vertices or allow students to use their imaginations to create whatever they want.
Marshmallow Sorting! Grab a bag of colored mini marshmallows and have your students sort them by color. Lay out bowls for sorting and tweezers to increase fine motor strength. Don’t be surprised if students sneak a bite while sorting these yummy, colorful math manipulatives.
Marshmallow Counting! Grab a marker and a clean sheet of paper. Create a table and add numbers for students to count the number of marshmallows. One-to-one correspondence is a very important skill for little learners to master and this is a great marshmallow activity to work on that skill.
