Clothes in Many Cultures is a fascinating book that is full of colors and information! Your students will get to see what other people wear around the globe and decide how they are similar and different.
Shoes Shoes Shoes will make a great addition to a clothing unit, multicultural unit, or geography unit. The book sorts shoes into different categories and teaches kids about their uses.
Hats Hats Hats is a wonderful nonfiction text that teaches children all about the importance of hats and the purpose they serve. The photographs are very interesting and will show children lots of options for kinds of hats.
The Proudest Blue is a great story to teach about hijabs and being strong in the face of adversity. The first day of school is always exciting but Faizah is faced with some hurtful words. How will she respond and show her true self?
Under My Hijab is a rhyming text about all the wonderful ways a little girl sees her family and friends wearing their hajib. She can’t wait to have her personality shine through her hajib when she gets big enough.

Silly Books About Clothing for Little Learners
Creepy Pair of Underwear! is bound to get giggles from your preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten students! Just the word underwear makes my class explode in giggles and these underwear glow in the dark so be sure to expect tons of silliness while reading this book about the glowing underwear that are just a bit creepy.
Llama Llama Red Pajama is full of rhymes and your little learners will love it! Baby Llama is making bedtime full of drama and Mama Llama is trying her best to comfort Baby Llama!
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons will become a favorite in your classroom! The rhymes and sing-songy rhythm make this perfect for little learners! It is catchy and silly and Pete doesn’t disappoint!
Underwear! is bound to make your little learners laugh and laugh! This little bear is onery and really giving his dad a hard time after bath. The book features tons of wordplay with homonyms, rhymes, and conjunctions.
A Pair of Socks is a fun book with lots of math skills thrown in. The readers will help decide if striped socks match polka-dotted socks and if large socks match small socks. This book is great for teaching comparisons and so much more!
I Love My Hat is a silly sing-along book about a farmer and the animals he picks up on his way to town. But these are regular animals, they are wearing clothes! Join the crazy group as they head to town to buy the farmer new clothes.
Joseph Had a Little Overcoat is a fun book to teach children about reusing items that are old or worn out and making something new with them. The book features little cutouts to give the reader a sneak peek at what he is making next.

Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse is a story about Lilly, an exuberant little mouse, that LOVES everything. She loves school, her family, her purple plastic purse, and her movie star sunglasses! Her teacher, Mr. Slinger, doesn’t seem to understand how excited Lilly is to share her treasures and he takes them away. Lilly is crushed but find out what Mr. Slinger does next by reading the story.

The Hat is a favorite of mine and my students always love reading it. This is a companion to the above book, The Mitten. Lisa’s hat falls off and animals in the forest move in and make it their home.
Those Shoes is a book about want vs need. Jeremy really wants those shoes but his grandma says they can’t have wants, just needs. So when his shoes break, he settles for a thrift store version that are too small. But sore feet aren’t much fun and Jeremy learns some important life lessons from those shoes.
Whose Hat Is This? is a guessing book about all different kinds of hats. Which jobs need hard hats and which ones need soft hats? The author does a wonderful job telling about community jobs that are important.
Whose Shoes? A Shoe for Every Job is a book about exploring potential jobs by their shoes. Expose children to different career options and see if they can guess which shoes go with each job.
How-To Clothing Books for Little Learners
Ella Sarah Gets Dressed is a fiction text about a little girl that wants to dress herself to show off her flamboyant style. She doesn’t want to dress like mom, dad, or her older sister; she has her own ideas.
Froggy Gets Dressed will make your little learners laugh especially when Froggy realizes he forgot to put on his pants to play in the snow. His Momma told him that winter wasn’t for frogs. Will he agree with Momma Frog? This book does a great job going over all the clothes needed for wintertime.
Oliver West! It’s Time to Get Dressed! is the perfect book for young children learning how to become more independent. Oliver wants to go outside and play with his friends but he has to get dressed first and that seems like a challenge!
The Jacket I Wear in the Snow is perfect for talking about all the layers necessary for playing in the snow. The descriptive words are amazing in this book and lend themselves easily to teaching about adjectives. The text is also rhyming to hold little learners’ attention.
