These Christmas and gingerbread light table activities can easily be altered to fit your theme; just change the manipulatives.
Christmas and Gingerbread Light Table Activities
Fill the Ornament Fine Motor Activity! Create a festive fine motor activity by placing clear ornaments, pony beads, and mini bells on the light table. Young kids can use spoons to fill the ornaments. This is such a simple activity that works on fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving skills!
Holiday Lacing! Create a lacing game with pipe cleaners, pony beads, small ornaments, and colored straws. Students practice lacing the manipulatives onto the pipe cleaners to improve finger dexterity. They had so much fun lacing and building fine motor muscles.
Gingerbread Shape Trace! Draw some shapes and give students fun manipulatives to make the shapes. I provided my young children with transparent bingo markers, candy cane striped straws, and mini gingerbread ornaments.
Holiday Writing Activities on the Light Table! My students love this holiday writing table set up on the light table! The students grabbed a light bulb letter and then traced it on the paper. I used a letter tracing printable in a dry-erase pocket for students to trace the letter. Then, they used the plastic candy canes to write the letter in the dyed salt.
Tree Letter Match! Use colored masking tape to create a Christmas tree on your light table. Then, write letters on the tape for students to match letter manipulatives. If you don’t have transparent letter manipulatives, check out this video for how to make your own light table manipulatives.

Tree Roll & Count! Use colored masking tape to create a tree or other holiday object for students to decorate while they develop math skills. My students rolled a die and then added that many manipulatives to the tree. Students then used magnet wands to clear the tree. If you have older students, give them 2 dice and practice informal addition.
Cookie Count Activity! Give students a die to roll and count that many manipulatives into the cookie cutters. I used pom poms so students could use tweezers to grab them and build fine motor muscles.
Gingerbread Count! Make gingerbread men out of tissue paper and write numbers on them. Students then counted that many manipulatives and placed them on the gingerbread man. My students loved the transparent buttons. They can decorate their own gingerbread men with the buttons once they count that amount.
DIY Cutouts for the Light Table! Use laminated tissue paper to make cutouts for your light table. You can make any shape you need for all the themes you will do each year! Cutting hack: staple a few sheets together, and then they won’t slip while you cut out multiples!
Tree Color Match! I cut out some trees from tissue paper in different colors. Then, students matched the transparent Christmas lights manipulatives by color. This is a great way to practice color recognition and complete fine motor activities. Write the color word on the Christmas tree to help students practice identifying those.
Gingerbread Path Games! Grab these FREE gingerbread path games to play on the light table. Students roll a die and move that many places. They start at the gingerbread cookies and move to the gingerbread house. They can play together or separately. Path games are a fun idea to practice lots of academic skills.
Ribbon Measuring Activity! I cut some pieces of ribbon in varying lengths, then gave students objects to measure with. Students practiced nonstandard measurement with small gift bows and linking cubes. Keep reading for more Christmas and gingerbread light table activities.
Gingerbread House STEM Activity! My students loved this STEM activity for a gingerbread theme. I gave them magnatiles and then magnetic manipulatives like mini bells and bingo chips. Then, they added these adorable mini gingerbread friends to complete their houses. You can find these STEM I Can Build cards here. There are some for all winter long.
Building Names! Practice name recognition and spelling with a simple name-building activity on the light table. Students can use whatever manipulatives you have on hand to build their names or their classmates’ names.
Pattern Block Mats on the Light Table! My students love to build with translucent pattern blocks on the light table. So I used some Christmas pattern block mats and let them develop their spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and ability to manipulate shapes.
